LIght In Motion juried show
photo
I entered a juried show with the theme of light in motion. I put two pieces in and one was accepted. I'm very excited about it.

TheĀ  piece is called "Water" as it represents the ripples in water and how the light is grabbed by the ripples and glitters and moves with it.

The opening is May 2, I can't wait!!

Inspiration - August 24, 2007

Inspiration has not been coming in hard and fast lately. I feel like I'm still decompressing from the last job and adjusting to the new one. Suddenly things are more relaxed and I feel the transition happening.

Finally tonight, I started to work in glass again. Good thing since Mom's birthday is in 2 days and I wanted to make her a bowl, my friend Rachel's birthday is in 3 days and I want to make her something AND a friend ordered a custom bowl. I didn't want to start the bowl till I had some insipiration, some idea of what would be pretty. Today I figured out what I want to do and started it. Now I have a line of items ready for the kiln :-)

Soon I'll have pics

Entry for August 19, 2007 - Stuff

I ran into my friend Ben and his girlfriend Kim today. Kim barely knows me but got me into blogging after she started wearing some of my pendants while reporting the weather on Ch 9 news. Ben commissioned me to make them and I was so excited after that event I decided what better time to start blogging.  So while chatting with Kim she said that she doesn't just blog the weather, she blogs all kinds of stuff because it's more interesting to talk about other things. Hmmmm I thought, is what just came out of the kiln going to get old? Should I share little Ali stories on occasion? Maybe I should.. So I'm going to give this a try.

A while back I posted how I had no time for glass, Work work work was all I was doing.  Glass is not my full time business, I'm honestly not sure I want it to be my full time business. If I did glass full time then it would become work and I'd need a new hobby.  In my career I'm what is called a Business Intelligence consultant, I work with a product called Cognos. We turn data into information :-) or as I like to say, we solve puzzles.  As a Cognos developer I'll get a set of reporting requirements to create a report and there's almost always a catch, some little issue that makes it tricky, something to figure out. I tell ya it's never boring.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I was working my butt off (50 - 60 hour weeks for several weeks and working most weekends) I was exhausted and beaten. Then a friend called and told me about a job opportunity for a larger company on a good project with the exact same commute (I have loved my 6 mile commute which in Northern VA is like money in the bank)

I interviewed and had an offer in no time. I started the job last Friday. Everyone seems nice and the work looks as organized as this kind of work can be. Best of all, I think I am getting my life back. I'll be able to work on glass more and hope the inspiration comes pouring back in.

So here's hoping for more time to fuse glass and do fun stuff!!!

Fresh outta the kiln 08-13-07
photo

I love this bowl, the main glass is a dove gray, the design is glass lace.

It was created by slumping into a mold that has a drop out center. It's my favorite mold as it's really versatile.

I have a custom order for another similar one. Fun fun fun
